Summer is a great time to hang out at the park, soak up the sun, and enjoy some thirst-quenching lemonade. It’s also a great time to find a quiet place in the shade and enjoy your favorite book. Did you know that according to Scholastic.com, the number of students who don’t read in the summer is increasing!
Why is it so important to read in the summer? Summer reading helps students retain the knowledge they learned during the previous school year. Students who read in the summer are less at risk of falling behind their classmates. It also helps students explore personal interests and find new hobbies. And we believe the best reason of all…it can inspire creativity. Scholastic goes on to state that kids genuinely enjoy summer reading!
Remember that summer reading doesn’t have to be heavy. Try introducing your children to magazines, activity books, and comic strips. Check out this article on “The Awesome Benefits of Comic Books for Kids.”
